Utility rooms are an inherent element of a modern home, as they significantly enhance its functionality, and consequently, the comfort of living of its residents. The garage, boiler room, basement, pantry or laundry room should, however, be designed and furnished in a practical way and isolated from the remaining interiors. This is why it is so important to choose good quality technical doors, matching the character of the given space. We have a few suggestions on what to aim for when purchasing such doors.
In the case of utility rooms, it is best to choose special technical doors, as they are characterized by a number of additional features compared to ordinary external doors. Such door joinery has a special structure. What is it usually made of? Predominantly reliable steel. High-quality solutions of this type can be found in the product range offered by Polish manufacturers, such as the WISNIOWSKI brand. “Seamless doors with a solid or glazed leaf combined with a sturdy steel opening frame made of formed sections will work great for securing utility rooms. Their structure guarantees reliable operation for many years.” explains Ireneusz Wierciak from WISNIOWSKI. Seamless doors are made of two steel sheets (usually galvanized). Between these layers, an infill is placed, providing appropriate performance parameters. Modern products of this type are characterized by good thermal insulation, as well as anti-burglary and fire resistance properties. It is best to match the individual functions to the character of the room, as these will be different for a garage or boiler room than for a laundry room or pantry.
What door to choose for a garage?
Many people connect their garage to the house in order to be able to use it conveniently regardless of the weather conditions. In such case, it is a good idea to choose a smoke-control door, which will protect the living area from harmful exhaust fumes. The door is tight primarily thanks to the number and quality of the gaskets used. Sound insulation is also a significant factor. We do not want to hear the noise of the car engine at night. With state-of-the art technological solutions combined with premium-class materials, we get a door that is rigid and durable, and resistant to physical factors and the weather. A specially developed design guarantees its quick and simple installation. The leaf infill is made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) or mineral wool in custom versions. The door is fitted with an anti-burglary bolt as standard.
If flammable materials are stored in the garage, fire resistance is also an important feature. Then, a fire-rated door will be the best choice, constituting an effective barrier against flames and smoke for a certain amount of time. What is important is the selection of the right fire rating.
What door is best for the boiler room?
The door to the boiler room should be at least 80 cm wide and be an outswing door. In exceptional situations, a sliding door may be used. If we have a low-power heating unit, we do not need to meet any other requirements. In the case of a higher-power boiler, a fire-rated door model with a specific fire rating should be selected. For equipment using: solid fuel with thermal power above 25 kW, heating oil with thermal power above 30 kW, fuel gas with thermal power above 30 kW, a door with a fire rating of at least EI 30 is mandatory (in such case, we recommend the WISNIOWSKI MultiSecure EI30 door, also available in an anti-burglary version). Additionally, rooms where heating oil is stored should be fitted with door joinery with a fire rating of at least EI 60. Such a door should also be tight, which is why solutions with a rebated frame are recommended. Nowadays, a technical door can also be a designer door. WISNIOWSKI offers a broad range of colour, pattern, glazing, and porthole options. Thanks to that, our garage, boiler room, pantry or laundry room can look elegant and appealing to the eye.
